THE NEED TO BE NEEDED,

for many women who love too much, those roles often meant that we denied our own needs while trying to meet the needs of other family members. Perhaps we were forced by circumstances to grow up too fast, prematurely taking on adult responsibilities because our mother or father was too sick physically or emotionally to carry out the appropriate parental functions. ..........
When this happened, we learned too young and too well how to take care of everyone but ourselves. Our own needs for love, attention, nurturing, and security went unmeat while we pretended to be more powerful and less fearful, more grow up and less needy, than we really felt....
We have been pretending to be grown up for so long, asking for so little and doing so much, that now it seems too late to take our turn. So we help and help, hope that ourfear will go away and our reward will be love.
